Biresch’s work explores the interconnection of different realities, dimensions, and perspectives. She experi- ments with VR and AR in speculative, playful designs that challenge and reshape perceptions of the world. Her artistic practice also delves into virtual physicality through non-human avatars, questioning embodiment in digital spaces. In 2021, she founded the virtual reality collective PRESS [ST]ART, which focuses on interac- tivity and the staging of VR experiences.
LENA BIRESCH ORIGINALLY COMES FROM THE THEATRE WORLD, WHERE SHE WORKED AS A PLAYWRIGHT AND DIRECTOR. SINCE 2016, SHE HAS INCREASINGLY ENGAGED
WITH IMMERSIVE AND INTERACTIVE MEDIA, LEADING HER TO TRAIN AS A GAME PROGRAMMER WITH A FOCUS ON VIRTUAL REALITY, WHICH SHE COMPLETED WITH A DIPLOMA IN 2020. SINCE THEN, SHE HAS BEEN WORKING AS A FREELANCE VIRTUAL REALITY EXPERIENCE DESIGNER AT THE INTERSECTION OF GAMES AND DIGITAL ART. SHE HAS BEEN A FELLOW AND ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AT INSTITUTIONS SUCH AS THE ACADEMY FOR THEATRE AND DIGITALITY IN DORTMUND, SCHAUBUDE BERLIN (GERMANY), AND MOSKOSEL CREATIVE LAB (SWEDEN).
